The Insurance Shop Tip 63 – Trip Hazards

The Insurance Shop Tip 63 – Trip Hazards

July 21st, 2016

Once again I remind you that the most costly element of your insurance premium is your Public Liability cover. This is simply due to the cost of claims arising from Slips and Trips.

If there was one perfect example of accidents that could have been avoided it has got to be trips. Mostly these are items left in a place that is in the path of a customer or indeed a staff member.

A discarded shopping basket is particularly regular. Boxes of goods being stacked on shelves. Magazine binders are particularly treacherous. Display stands placed inappropriately.

I say again that you must be diligent but that this is simply not enough. Your staff must be equally diligent which means that you must find a way of ensuring that they care as much as you do to prevent accidents, injuries and claims.

Regular, (at least every 30 minutes but ideally every 15), floor checks from corner to corner should be carried out and then recorded. This together with CCTV footage is your only chance of providing yourself with any chance of a defence.

Always remember – call us to discuss any/every incident. We will advise and guide you.
