The Insurance Shop Tip 66 – A way to combat size of liability claims 24/8/16

September 1st, 2016

The topic that we cover more than any other is slips and trips and time and again I have referred to the fact that these together with other injury claims are the most significant factor that accounts for the staggering costs that you face every year for your shop insurance.

I wanted to make you aware that we have increased our activity in any and every incident reported to us by engaging directly with the injured party through the retailer, paying for medical costs and loss of earnings. This is clearly only where we mutually decide that we have no defence. In these cases we have settled claims for what I will blatantly describe as a fraction of what I’m sure the cost would be had they gone formal through legal representation.

We are seeking your help to bring more of this change about. In the first place you must immediately engage with the injured party. You don’t admit liability. Just do the decent thing and enquire if they’re badly hurt and what if any medical assistance they may require. Get their name and contact details. Contact me/your insurer immediately. View and make a copy of CCTV. Get statements from any staff witnesses.

Please don’t fall into the trap of believing/perceiving that we will run out offering money without considering the issue of liability. We will view the circumstances with you and only act having first discussed and agreed with you the best course of action.

We depend on you – please help!

Always remember – call us to discuss any/every incident. We will advise and guide you.
