Irish Heart Oireachtas Urged To increase Legal Age For Tobacco To 21 – Irish Heart Foundation

We note an increase in lobbying by non-governmental organisations(NGO’s) to influence the Department of Health in the upcoming Tobacco and Vaping Licencing Bill (See Here)

Of particular concern to us is the suggestion that the age restrictions for tobacco (currently 18) sales and vaping (none currently) would be raised to 21.
CSNA would have serious difficulty on two grounds:

1. Banning Existing smokers aged 18 and over from accessing tobacco products will lead to very difficult safety concerns for many of our members and their staff.
2. CSNA would be very concerned that this change would lead to restrictions on the age that our staff must be to sell tobacco.
