Members are reminded that the NMW changed on January 1st.
The new rate is €9.15 per hour worked
The sub minimum rates are as follows
Youth rate – Under 18 – 70% of full adult rate = €6.41 per hour
First employment over 18 – 80% of full adult rate = €7.32 per hour
Second year in employment – 90% of full adult rate = €8.24 per hour
Whilst most members believe the above rates as being for under 18, 18-19 years old and 19-20 years old, this is not strictly true as the First employment over 18 could relate to any person never having previously been employed. What is an absolutely fact is that no worker under 20 is entitled to earn €9.15 per hour
