The Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association (CSNA) has launched a petition against the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill, which to date has received nearly 1,850 signatures.
The petition states the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill will force retailers to put all alcohol behind closed doors. According to the association, “this is an excessive measure which is another example of the state interfering unnecessarily in your daily life and of punishing small, community-based retailers”.
Customers are also being asked to sign the petition on the grounds that their “choice to browse” alcohol in local stores is being affected.
Those who sign the petition to their local Deputy or Senator, agree that “the move in the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill to introduce complete structural and visual separation of alcohol in my local store is a bridge too far and I do not support it”.
