Structural/Product Separation – Public Health Alcohol Bill

Retailers have two years to ensure that their stores are presented in a compliant fashion to meet their legal obligation following the signing by Minister Simon Harris of the relevant Commencement orders which names the 12th of November 2020 as being the effective date that the Structural Separation Section of the Bill takes effect.

The Association will be meeting with the Department of Health officials to discuss some of the finer points of the Section as it affects our “wine only” and “full” licence holders and will publish guidelines and provide advice to all members well in advance of November 2020.

Mixed retail outlets will be required to confine alcohol products and advertising of said products to one of the following – an area separated by a 1.2metre high barrier, or units in which alcohol products are not visible up to 1.5 metres height, or up to 3 display units that are a maximus of 1 metre wide by 2.2 metres high. In additional, alcohol products can be contained but not visible in units behind the counter.
